Bookkeeper/Payroll Specialist

The Bookkeeper/Payroll Specialist is responsible for recording and maintaining a company’s accounting records and completing payroll functions at Hood River Juice Company (HRJCO) and Little King Transportation (LKT). Key responsibilities include processing AP invoices, communicate with vendors as necessary, and reconcile accounts to statements monthly to ensure accuracy. Will complete bi-weekly payroll processing, taxation forms, handling payroll questions, and completing any other tasks necessary for monitoring and overseeing the Company’s payroll process. The Bookkeeper/Payroll Specialist supports the Accounting Department by assisting with general accounting related functions.


  • Associates degree with accounting coursework preferred
  • Proven bookkeeping, AP/AR, and payroll processing experience
  • Understanding of and the ability to adhere to generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP)
  • High degree of accuracy, attention to detail and problem-solving ability
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficiency in using Microsoft Office products and accounting software (QuickBooks) required
  • Experience using payroll software. Paycom experience is preferred
  • Experience using SAP Business One is a plus
  • Food processing, manufacturing and transportation background is highly desirable

Essential Functions & Responsibilities

  • Generates invoices and make payments
  • Record day to day financial transactions and complete the posting process
  • Monthly reporting and reconciliations to general ledger of accounts payable aging
  • Monthly account analysis and balance sheet reconciliations
  • Enter journal entries to debit and credit the company’s accounts
  • Reconciles and reports differences or issues found in financial records
  • Completes bi-weekly full-cycle payroll processing and ad-hoc final pay for separating employees
  • Verifies validity of weekly timecards with management, supervisors, and staff
  • Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local payroll, wage, and hour laws and best practices
  • Process child support orders, garnishments
  • Periodic ad-hoc projects and additional job duties as assigned
  • Ensures confidentiality in all matters relating to payroll operations and financial matters

Work Environment

Professional office environment. Role includes sitting at a computer/video display terminal and periodically walking and gathering information from employees. General working hours are 8:00am – 5:00pm Monday through Friday. These hours and days may change based on workload and deadlines.

Physical Requirements

Must be able to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing; able to sit for long periods of time. Must be able to type on a keyboard.
